Matthew Grabelsky’s “Jungle Train” at Thinkspace Projects.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California is artist Matthew Grabelsky’s solo exhibition, “Jungle Train.”
Grabelsky’s works depict his subjects traveling on subways, often nonchalantly reading magazines or newspapers, while the protagonists in these dyads are strange, quasi-mythological human hybrids with animal heads. Deer, bears, elephants, tigers, and everything in between, make a suited appearance in rush hour. By contrasting the platitudes of the day-to-day with the presence of the extraordinary and unlikely, Grabelsky stages the unexpected within the most unassuming of circumstances.
The exhibition will be on view until August 24th, 2019.

Kyle Bryant’s “On Broken Wings” at Thinkspace Projects.
Currently on view at Thinkspace Projects in Los Angeles, California is artist Kyle Bryant’s solo exhibition, “On Broken Wings.”
Kyle Bryant graduated from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in 2008 and has been perfecting his special brand of what he refers to as “Present Surrealism” ever since, an aesthetic bordering on the edge of a believable reality. A fine artist focusing on woodcut printmaking, Bryant recently took his oeuvre into a new direction, by adding layering and dimension to his wood-carved works.
The exhibition will be on view until August 24th, 2019.

Lucien Shapiro’s “OCULUS” at Hashimoto Contemporary SF.
Currently on view at Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco, California is artist Lucien Shapiro’s stunning solo exhibition, “OCULUS.”
Returning for his second solo exhibition with the gallery, this latest body of work continues the artist’s exploration of transformation through laborious craft and meditative consumption of time to create ornate, ritualistic objects.
Humble materials such as bottle caps, broken automotive glass and discarded plastic are transmuted into totemic figures and portals through the artist’s intricate practice. The sculptural objects created for “OCULUS” mix natural and cityscape materials obsessively collected from Shapiro’s travels ranging from Indonesian jungles to San Francisco streets. Organic crystals and wood forms interweave with “street diamonds” (broken auto glass), spikes and metal remnants to create armored vessels and abstract figures.
The exhibition will be on view until August 24th, 2019 and should be sought out if in the area.

Este acto cruel fue prohibido en Sudamérica por los patriotas tras la independencia de España en el siglo XIX. Ya no somos bárbaros como los españoles.
